Tribute CD On 2Pac's 35th B-Day
Dr. Mutulu Shakur will commemorate the 35th birthday of his late son, Tupac Amaru Shakur, by releasing A 2Pac Tribute: Dare 2 Struggle on June 16.
The 55-year-old, self-described "freedom fighter" has a long association with a number of black activist groups, including the Black Panthers. The acupuncturist has been in prison since 1986 after being charged with various conspiracy and extortion charges, as well as for helping his sister Assata escape from prison, where she was serving time for murdering a New Jersey state trooper and wounding another one.
The album features Mopreme, Nzingha, Outlawz, TQ, Slick, Imaan Faith, and T-Jay, among others. It is executive produced by Dr. Shakur and Canadian hip-hop activist Raoul Juneja (a.k.a. Deejay Ra) and will be distributed through Kent Entertainment’s rap imprint First Kut and Juneja's Lyrical Knockout Entertainment (Toronto). ‘Dare 2 Struggle’ will also include a preview of Dr. Shakur’s new historical fiction novel about Tupac entitled "N 2 Da Gutter."
Dare 2 Struggle includes a 16-page booklet that includes the "Thug Code" as well as a preview chapter of Shakur's historical novel about Tupac titled N 2 Da Gutter.
Shakur is the executive producer of the album along with Canadian hip-hop activist Raoul Juneja (a.k.a Deejay Ra). It's being released through Kent Entertainment's First Kut rap imprint in association with Juneja's Toronto-based Lyrical Knockout Entertainment company.
Half of the proceeds from the record's sales will go towards Shakur's inner city health and education initiative.
